Increase Decrease Tee - The Story Behind the Shirt

"He must increase, but I must decrease."

-John 3:30

As I studied John this year, this verse seemed to jump off the page to me. John the Baptist had an opportunity to take some credit for himself. His friends came to him and told him that this man that John baptized was now baptizing others and that many were coming to the other man (gasp)! Good news: it was Jesus, and this was exactly how it should be!

Of course John does such a good job explaining this.

"He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all. And what He has seen and heard, that He testifies; and no one receives His testimony. He who has receiving His testimony has certified that God is true. For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure. The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand. He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; an he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him."

John 3:31-36

Jesus is from heaven, and He is above all. John is setting the record straight here, giving all credit and authority to Jesus as the Son of God.

As I continue to follow Jesus, I continue to learn that it is really all about Him and not so much about me. This year I had a few circumstances where God allowed me to feel rejected and passed over. My pride was stung, but God used it to show me that it's really not about me.

I want Him to be big, and me to be small. More of Him. Less of me.

I hope that this shirt will be a reminder to us as we follow Jesus to point to Him in all that we do.
